About Jeff

Hi! My name is Jeff Borden and I hold a few titles and positions – here is a short (believe it or not) description.  My titles include Professor, Director, Speaker, Student, and Consultant, although I’m most proud to be called Husband and Daddy – my first little girl was born in 2007!
I’m currently the Director of Academic Training & Consulting at eCollege (www.ecollege.com) which means I’m responsbile for the training of faculty and administrators around the country regarding “e-vangelism” for online education, pedagogy, best practices for online education, system training, growing successful programs, etc. My team of academics are all instructors / teachers somewhere and we are proud to help educate educators through course reviews, trainings, conference speaking, and consultation.  Check out our eTeaching Institute for more information (http://eteaching.ecollege.com).
I earned an M.A in Rhetoric and Human Communication from the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colorado in 1995. I’m currently in a doctoral program (Education Leadership) from Argosy University in Denver, CO.  For the past 12 years, I have taught several upper and lower division Human Communication courses for the University of Northern Colorado, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and several other institutions around the country.  I’ve designed and taught dozens of on-ground and online courses since 1995. In addition, I was Program Coordinator of Basic Public Speaking & Rhetoric for the largest program of its kind in the United States at MSCD.  I am currently an instructor at Westwood College as well as Southeastern Community College, teaching various communication, education, and computer courses.
As a communications major, I began using my public speaking talents while still in Grad school.  In fact, I worked weekends as a comedian to help supplement my education.  Today, I am often asked to speak and keynote at conferences as well as present workshops and seminars to dozens, hundreds, and even thousands of audience members for various companies, institutions, and organizations.  Some of my topics include:  effective teaching, creativity, communication consulting, learning styles for today’s learners, outcomes & standards creation, eLearning, authentic tasks & assessment, nonverbal communication, Master Teaching, and general education topics. I am a contributing writer to a monthly column for the eCollege “Educator’s Voice” newsletter (http://www.ecollege.com/eNewsletter.learn) and continue to publish within my major field of study.
In addition to my academic service, I have also consulted for both profit and non-profit companies / organizations around the country in the areas of organizational, small group, intercultural, courtroom, and interpersonal communication. In 2001 I was able to develop and begin presenting a seminar series, “Teaching Master Teachers: Practical Teaching Applications.” This series has been presented on several college campuses as well as to National Public Radio, ABC West, the American Association of Doctors, and in various other corporate settings.  I have consulted with various District Attorney’s offices as well as facilitated the Weld County Children’s Code among most judicial, political, and legal entities.
I’ve published a workbook for public speaking (3rd ed.) as well as several articles and illustrations for various communication books. I’m a member of many speaking organizations and occasionally still perform stand-up comedy just to keep myself grounded.
In my “free” time, I have written several plays and musicals, which have been performed at various locations around Colorado and I continue to try and publish the great American novel. (Publishers, if you are looking for a great suspense / thriller, look no more!  Contact me immediately!)  But my favorite activities have recently switched from playing fetch with Jackson (my Black Lab / Greyhound), strumming my guitar, and playing disc golf semi-professionally (www.pdga.com - I was ranked in 2006) , to spending time with my wife Keena and our new daughter Addison Tierney (Addie), who was born on July 6, 2007!
